Painting and Drawing - Mixed and Multiple Media
Making art has always been second nature to me. I played with materials from my earliest age possible, three or two? My mother was complimented on always giving me art materials when I was a small child. I am glad she did! I made mud pies and sand castles at the beach. Coloring and drawing, cutting things out, like a horse drawn cart in Central Park was an immediate possibility to me, without thinking about it, just doing it.
I could always be at the view or place I was looking at. Viewing was transportive and magical as it is today, for me I can sit and look at the ocean, pelicans, any natural event and be right there for the moment. I can listen to people's stories and be there while I visualize their descriptions in my mind. My own experiences loom before me in memory and I see welcome images appear.
And so my art is representative of these habits. I like to draw natural reality or what I imagine in my mind and my mind's eye. My subjects vary and surprise me often but come from Nature and imagination even though they range all over the map! Dreaming is sort of a bridge for me between the two worlds of Nature and imagination, as an entry into my work. My art has always been a parallel reality for me and pieces become markers in time, reminding me that I have had different points of view at significant times in my life.
