Karen Camille Bowers “Sea Change” June 2025 This June featured artist Karen Camille Bowers revisits many of her well-known themes with a new approach and perspective she attributes to “sea change”. Sea change is an English idiomatic bc expression that denotes a substantial change in perspective, especially one that affects a group or society at large. The phrase was first used in Shakespeare’s play “The Tempest” to allude to the changes that occur to a body lost at sea into something new and beautiful, “of his bones are coral made.” The phrase is now used to describe any major shift, whether in attitudes, opinions, policies, or even physical landscapes. It implies a complete and lasting transformation. We hear of a “sea-change” in public perception regarding climate change, or a “sea-change” in political policies after a significant election result. “Personally and politically I have experienced a sea change. Many of us have. The paintings in this show were done in this context. On paper, canvas and wood, in watercolor and acrylic they offer a variety of new perspectives on seascapes, sandbars, rivers and beaches...new work produced in a climate of profound change.” You are invited to come and experience these exciting new images at the Artists’ Co-op gallery from June 4th through June 30th . Camille will give a. Artist’s Talk on Second Saturday June 14 . The Co-op is located at Kasten at Albion Sts in Mendocino.
