Art making is a way of life for Laura Corben. It is a response to seeing. To being alive. To having a blank piece of paper on hand.
I Instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. -Mary Oliver After a year of art school Laura was off to explore the world and began a life of sketchbook journaling and travels. Across the U.S. To India and back. Eventually she earned a BFA at San Jose State University, then taught art near the Bay Area. A sabbatical was an opportunity for another year long journey around the world. Now settled in Mendocino county, her art reflects her rural surroundings. Dozens of sketchbooks attest to other travels and life experiences. She works primarily in water media: watercolor, gouache, and acrylic. All artworks shown here are originals.
