Sev and I didn’t start out with collages...that evolved.  We started out doing our own thing. I was painting.  Then Sev introduced the jelli plate which we played with making some paper patterns.  Then she came up with the oxide sprays on photo paper From which I made some cards.  I began to make flowers with the various papers and that was when the collages started.  We also began to cut up papers we had made with jelli plates.  I’m not sure who suggested we collaborate to tell you the truth.  It was as if we had one mind.  We started out with “switch and surprise“ on the 6x6 panel format; then started larger pieces which took much longer.  It all happened in progression.

Reflections by Sev
I came to Mendocino in 1983 and was taken into The Ruth Carlson Gallery and thus began my years of living in the most beautiful place on earth AND delving into my passion of painting and creating.  Now calling myself "semi retired,” I have entered a new world of creating that began when Shanti Benoit and I started meeting at her home on Tuesdays….there we began exploring new thoughts and ideas and what you see in this Virtual Exhibition are the results .  Our love of color, design and many, many similar interests were amazing to discover on those Tuesdays…and we began the idea of collaborating…taking one theme and passing it back and forth until we were happy with the finished piece.  We made our papers using myriad techniques: Gelli plate printing, photo paper, inks, acrylics, stencils, hand made stamps, textures of all sorts.
To use Shanti’s word it was all MAGIC!!!!  
 
We are eager to get back into our Tuesdays and start our journey again and who knows where this next year will take us…we are excited and full of anticipation of more exploration and collaboration .
